Knee Ligament Injuries can be a messy affair. Our knees have multiple ligaments and other soft tissues known as Meniscus, inside them. Together, they stabilize the knee when we stand, walk, run or jump. It is common to have a ligament or meniscus injury while playing, trekking, doing activities which require speed and sudden change of direction quickly.
The Symptoms of a Ligament Injury depends upon the severity of it, but mostly its acute pain, swelling and difficulty moving or bending the knee. You may also hear a moderate to loud “pop” sound while sustaining the injury. It’s best to stop playing immediately, apply Ice, and keep the knee straight. One can also apply a compression bandage. The Next thing to do is to visit a Sports Physiotherapist / Sports Medicine Specialist to get the Knee Evaluated for any possible injuries.
Remember, Ligament tears are completely treatable and with proper medical attention and treatment, one can return to his sports/activities even after a complete ligament tear.
